An oxygen generator is a device that separates oxygen from compressed air using special selective adsorptive technology called pressure swing adsorption (PSA). The compressed air used in the oxygen generation process has a similar composition to ambient environmental air with 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen. The oxygen contained in the compressed air is allowed to flow through a zeolite molecular sieve which retains nitrogen resulting in high purity oxygen at gas production outlets.
The way an oxygen generator works is relatively simple. The machine pulls in air, and that air travels through a compressor. The compressed air goes into a sieve bed filter system that has two prongs. When the compressed air goes into the first sieve bed, nitrogen is removed while oxygen is forced into the tank. Pressure Swing Adsorption. Atlas Copco oxygen generators use pressure swing adsorption (PSA) technology. The generator consists of two separate pressure vessels filled with zeolite molecular sieve (ZMS) material that separates the oxygen from the incoming air.
